The ingredient and allergen listings are stored on the device, so you can take it with you whether you have an internet connection or not. New ingredients and associations are added regularly, and can be quickly downloaded with the click of a button.
The lite version has all of the same information as the full version. However, it is ad-supported and only allows the saving of 1 user profile. The full version is ad-free and you can save unlimited profiles for keeping track friends and family's allergies.
