The Be Energy Smart Discovery App forms part of a discovery-based energy efficiency learning and mobile data capture program for students in grades 5 through 8 that is designed to make them more knowledgeable and engaged in critical energy consumption and conservation issues through hands-on research and involvement in developing solutions to real-world energy challenges.
In the Be Energy Smart learning experience, students will use mobile and online technologies to:
• Establish energy consumption levels in a building (school, library, business, home) through an energy audit, and collect data on energy saving actions they take as part of this program, all guided by a mobile data capture app
• Complete a set of inquiry-based learning activities based on the data they capture, that prompt them to identify opportunities and define strategies to conserve and reduce costs, and determine the impact of energy-saving actions they take
• Communicate their findings and the impact of their actions to their peers, as well as school and community leaders.
This app is designed to be used in concert with Aecern’s Discovery Hub, which can be accessed online at http://aecern.org/.
This app is currently being tested by selected schools. It is available for all to use. Comments and feedback are most welcome.
