SOUNDSTRUM:

Soundstrum is a combination of several productivity tools, all for one low price. It is designed for students, teachers and professionals in business, music, engineering, science, law and politics. It is a voice/music/sound recorder, player, tuner and analyzer, with exceptional and powerful capabilities, nicely integrated in one easy to use App. It is difficult to count the ways Soundstrum can be used but it certainly is a fertile ground for your creative mind.

With Soundstrum you can edit and enter text in a file that is automatically created, associated and synchronized with the sound file. It puts in timestamps and day/time data whenever needed. This can be done in real time while recording and while reviewing a pre-recorded sound.

DESCRIPTION:

Soundstrum has an analyzer that breaks up a sound sample into its components and presents them in musical and scientific notations. It places the tones detected on graphical representations of a piano, a guitar and a music staff.

Soundstrum is carefully organized and presented in five levels to let you choose just the set of capabilities you need in any given situation.

1. In the Capture level, you operate it as a conventional voice/music/sound recorder and player with a minimum number of gestures making the operations easy and fast.

2. In the Review level, you have the added capability of easily finding the point of interest in the recording by panning the recording which is presented in a waveform graphics view. You can also set markers in the view to loop play a section of the recording.

3. In the Tuner level, in addition to the graphical display of the tones, it shows the tuning error in the tones produced from an instrument. It can also generate an accurate audible reference tone for tuning your instrument.

4. In the Examine level, you can view and play a zoomed section of the recording. This section can be located very precisely in time by simply panning the view.

5. In the Analyze level, you have maximum control and visibility in the finer details of the sound. The output of the spectrum analyzer is graphically presented.

Soundstrum has a built-in Help system which instantly displays general and specific information about any object on the screen. You can personalize the appearance of the App by choosing one of virtually infinite combinations of color hues and images, in seconds with just a few gestures. You can even use an image captured with the camera in the device or one downloaded from another computer.

TECHNICAL DETAILS:

Pre-recorded audio files can be downloaded using iTunes filesharing. The audio file format supported is CD quality 16bit Linear PCM, mono or stereo, contained in .wav, .caf and .aif files. The recorder generates data in the same format contained in a .wav file.
The default recording is in Mono and can be set to Stereo to work with an external USB stereo microphone set up. The number of filenames Soundstrum's unique file handler can hold is 100. File names must be alpha-numeric only, with the typical .extension. Files can be renamed and deleted. The text file created is in .txt format. The recorder stops after 60 minutes of recording unless you extend the time, in 15 minutes increments, each time an alert is issued. The recorder and player can run in the background but are subject to termination by the iOS under certain circumstances.

DISCLAIMERS:

The first of the 5 screenshots presented here is the launch screenshot. Each of the other four screenshots was taken after the default color scheme was changed. The sound file used to show the waveform in the screenshots is not part of the product.

As Soundstrum was not tested with an Apple approved stereo microphone, there is no assurance that such a set up will work.

Soundstrum is not iCloud enabled. A long recording in CD quality results in a large file. Back up via iTunes is highly recommended.
