Illuminator Dictionary

The world’s premier Tibetan English dictionary has finally come to iOS. The Illuminator was the first modern and high quality Tibetan-English dictionary in electronic format. Unlike other Tibetan English electronic dictionaries available, which are a conglomeration of materials garnered from pre-existing translations and other sources. The Illuminator has been created entry by entry by a scholar of many years experience who lives and works in daily contact with Tibetan scholars and translates for the great teachers of the Tibetan Buddhist world.  Each entry is produced by individually translating and explaining the terms involved. In general, the Illuminator has been praised for its absence of mistakes, excellence of presentation, and the exceptional and forward-looking quality of the work contained within it.

Functionality:
Dictionary can be searched either by Tibetan text or the transliterated form, whichever is easiest for the user. Whole dictionary can also be searched in English.

Each term is defined at length in clear English, and hyperlinked to relevant terms.

Terms are divided out into parts of speech, a handy tool for grammatical reference.

Given the encyclopedic scope of the dictionary, it is useful to scholars and practitioners alike. Thousands of key terms from Sutra and Tantra are included along with Tibetan secular vocabulary.

Wherever possible, Sanskrit terms have been included to give the reader a feeling for the original term from which the Tibetan was translated.
