OrbitSim HD is an ideal hands-on learning application for high school or university students studying physics, astronomy, or engineering. The app is based on equations from Newtonian physics and Kepler’s laws and uses this mathematical foundation to calculate a range of orbital parameters and generate realistic animations.

The physics of orbital mechanics were first formulated by some of the great minds of the Scientific Revolution – Galileo, Kepler, Newton, and others. Generations of curious learners have been fascinated by the motion of the solar system and the mysterious phenomenon of gravity. With OrbitSim HD, you can satisfy your curiosity and build a practical understanding of the fundamentals of orbital mechanics.

• Use touch gestures to design orbits around any of the 8 planets of our solar system, as well as the Sun and Earth’s moon
• Experiment with 3 modes of operation (basic 2-body orbit, orbit circularization, and Hohmann transfer)
• Study detailed output data including orbit geometry, orbital period, specific energy, angular momentum, transfer delta-Vs, and more
• Input the apoapsis and periapsis of your orbit in terms of either radius or altitude above the planetary surface
• Animate your orbit – play, pause, step forward, step back, adjust the time scale
• View degree-by-degree orbit data while your orbit animates
• Display input and output data in either English or SI units
• Enable or disable a background grid
• Orbit overlays for nearby planets and moons
