The Macquarie Lite Australian Dictionary app is fast, easy to use and provides users with an introductory but broad reference for Australian English. The app answers the needs of users on matters of spelling and usage in Australian English for more common words and phrases.
Based on the Macquarie Little Dictionary and equivalent to a 600 page book retailing at A$11, the app includes:
- Over 19,000 words and phrases
- Over 30,000 definitions
- Over 1800 usage notes
- Audio pronunciations (new!)
- Easy to understand definitions
- Common abbreviations
- Examples to clarify usage
Features include:
- Simple and fast search
- Fuzzy and wildcard search options
- Voice search (new!)
- Browse through entries (new!)
- Bookmark entries (new!)
- Recent search list (new!)
- Note-taking feature (new!)
- Cross-reference links (new!)
- Options to share content (new!)
- Word of the Day (new!)
- Compatible with VoiceOver
- Access anytime without an internet connection*
*Note that access to audio pronunciations requires internet connection.
*Note iPad version currently does not rotate screen - this will be fixed in later updates to come.
The Macquarie Lite Australian Dictionary app features new words and up-to-date definitions such as clean fuel, flashpacker, lifestreaming, textaholic, tidal power and toxic debt, plus usage notes to help with common language problems such as confused words (affect and effect), collective nouns taking singular or plural (media, team, group), words that are restricted in context (pathos is more usually sadness, grocer is somewhat dated), and abbreviations (postscript is abbreviated to PS).
This app is from the publishers of the popular, authoritative Macquarie Dictionary — Australia's national dictionary. The Macquarie Dictionary continues to change, adapt and re-adjust to reflect Australian language.
