Overview

GeoPedia is a travel, reference and educational application providing a browsable, searchable database of cities and towns located in each country. GeoPedia uses geonames.org reverse geocoding to locate Wikipedia articles and local points of interest near your current location or any city in the GeoPedia database. GeoPedia will search for Flickr photos near your current location or from any city in the GeoPedia database. You can browse a gallery of thousands of publicly available pictures. GeoPedia uses Google Local Search to find a nearby business or organization by category or by name. GeoPedia can display directions to or from any geocoded location.

Backpackers, business travellers and tourists will find GeoPedia indispensable for locating hostels, hotels, restaurants or anything else in the city they plan to visit. Users can select from an extensive database of cities and towns within each country or search based on their current location, GoePedia uses the GPS location service of the iPhone to search based on your current location.

Google Local Search

Google Maps is a powerful tool for locating local businesses, emergency services, entertainment, government offices, tourist attractions and more. With GeoPedia, you can take the power of Google Maps with you on your phone wherever you go.

Wikipedia

GeoPedia locates geocoded WikiPedia articles near your current location or articles in and around the city you plan to visit. View Wikipedia articles about museums, art galleries, buildings, geographical points of interest and much more. GeoPedia allows you to read the article in a format suitable for mobile devices. As well as loading the WikiPedia article, GeoPedia can retrieve a summary of the article, display the location of the article on the integrated map or launch Google maps to display directions from your current location to the location the article refers to. Google street view is also available for many Wikipedia article location.

Flickr

Browse thousands of Flickr photos taken near your current location or photos taken in and around the city you plan to visit. Once you have found an interesting geocoded photo, GeoPedia will retrieve a summary of the photo, display the location of the photos on the integrated map or launch Google maps to display directions from your current location to the location the photo was taken. Google street view is also available for many photo location.

GeoNames

The GeoNames geographical database contains millions of geographical names, unique features and populated places. GeoPedia allows you to select from 7 GeoName classes in order to find points of interest near your current location or in and around the city you plan to visit. GeoNames integrates geographical data from various sources. All lat/long coordinates are in WGS84 (World Geodetic System 1984).
