We know Greek music from the inside which has been developed in parallel with the Byzantine church music and popularized mainly by oral means. It was also unknown in which words known church members were replaced several times with satirical versions and sung at parties and festivals. Throughout the history of Greek music we can see also how much is closed with the western church music of the Middle Ages. Greek traditional music came from Byzantine music and affects with more eastern sounds the whole western music. These compositions have existed for centuries: they originated in the Byzantine period and Greek antiquity, there is a continuous change which appears in the language, the rhythm, the structure and the melody. Music is a significant aspect of Hellenic culture, both within Greece and its diaspora.
