DJ Short Mike is a Bronx native however jamaican background started off playing his first school party In 1984 which was when He acquired his skills In actually playing For patrons. Dj Short Mike learned his turntable skills from Dj solo Fr the valley Bx which back In the day went by the name of Cut Master Jay these were djs that used to work with anything they got their hands on the choice of turntables at that time were Technic SL B1 straight arm turntables since as the popular Technic 1200 @ the time were way too expensive. Dj Short Mike from there went on to elevating buying two of every record from record shops like Record Rama Boston Bx Genesis Records Bx Moodies Records Bx Nu Look Records Bx just to name a few Dj Short Mike started off as a Hip Hop Dj in the days of Red Alert, Chuck Chillout, Marley Marl, Brucie B, Latin Rascals & more in that era @ that time Hot 97 did not exsist Ny’s’ Hip Hop stations were Kiss Fm 98.7 & Wbls 107.5 As a youngster coming up still going to school Dj Short Mike used to be deep into music music always on his mind he got a part time job in Moodies Records In The Bx where he then went on to learn tons of music fr Earl Moodie Richard Groves Roy Buckley Rudy & Other staff members In those days Shower Posse Nuffest Crew just to name a few were in the street scene where u then had clubs like Stardust Ballroom Wagon Wheel Hq Paradise Q Club Act 3 just to name a few @ that time Moodies Records was a One Stop For all crews artists selectors so forth & so on Now remember Dj Short Mike already had obtained turntable skills from before working in Moodies Records it was in Moodies Records Dj Short Mike began to appreciate Reggae Music plus a wide variety of genres of music Dj Short Mike was now learning fr many selectors that used to buy records and dominate New York like The Great Tony Screw aka Downbeat The Ruler Dj Short Mike even selected for Downbeat in the early 90s part time Dj Short Mike then joined up with Junior that Had the infamous Concord Sound 1990 and they took off from there now Dj Short Mike is bumping heads and not to mention learning from Downbeat, Afrique,Tippatone, Atomic, Addies & other popular Ny sound systems in the area not to mention Dj Short Mike was responsable for all cassettes in Moodies Records every single Sound that ever existed in Reggae Music history came through Moodies Records Dj Short Mike even used to fly to Jamaica regular in the 90s to purchase wholesale records for Moodies Records from all the major record distributors in Jamaica and thats how Dj Short Mike learned the tunes and increased the love for music When you combine the skill he started working in Moodies Records with.. you create a music machine and thats what Dj Short Mike is! pure music power travelling many places in the world many times with Downbeat as a backup selector Dj Short Mike over the years learned more and more now combined with former Non Stop Promotions Team now Team Hitmatic & rocks out on A community radio station in the Bronx doing quite well So now you have the best of all worlds staying up with today’s music/energy and of course the foundation of all music you have one of the best most versatile Dj/Selectors in the biz right now.
