The exhibition app “How to live?” accompanies you as you tour the exhibition “How to live? Images of the Future from Malevich to Fujimoto” at the Wilhelm Hack Museum in Ludwigshafen from 5 December 2015 to 28 February 2016. Both at the venue and from the comfort of your own home, a selection of specific works will enable you to discover more than 20 themed areas and to gain digital insights into important ideas for the future drawn from the areas of the visual arts, architecture and design. The exhibition draws a curated multimedia line from the beginning of the 20th century through to the present day. An exclusive compilation of texts from the exhibition catalogue offers you a comprehensive spectrum of information and guides you to the highlights from art, architectural and design history – not only at the exhibition, but also in the comfort of your own home or while you’re on the go.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
With over 300 works by more than 100 artists, architects and designers, the exhibition showcases ideas for and of the future from the Russian avant-garde through to our digital age, and outlines a multifaceted history of the future. Since time immemorial, people have busied themselves creating concepts and visions to shape the world of tomorrow: How do we want to be? How do we want to live? How do we want to work? Creatives in particular mold our society with their images of the future. And yet our present is always the future of yesterday. Some ideas remain visions, others are realized.
With our app, you can explore themed areas spanning such topics as “Industrial Ages”, “Living, Breathing Architecture”, and “Dissolving in the Digital”. In doing so, you will discover the Constructivist nature of the works of Kazimir Malewich or El Lissitzky, and understand movements such as De Stijl and the educational institution that was the Bauhaus. Photographs by August Sander, Bernd and Hilla Becher and Robert Häusser will guide you to the link between industry and art, something that to this day forms the background for many visions of the future. The use of new materials such as plastic are demonstrated to you directly in the designs of Verner Panton or Luigi Colani. The exhibition concludes with references to the challenges of the present. Contemporary artists such as Tomás Saraceno, Terreform ONE or Davide Quayola inspire us to think carefully about our future. In their own particular ways, the artistic projects created especially for the exhibition by Luka Fineisen, Christoph Girardet, Antje Schiffers and Jean-Louis Schoellkopf examine visions of the future and the working world of Ludwigshafen-based corporation BASF.
The Wilhelm Hack Museum invites you to view the impressive originals and in the form of this app guides you on your tour or in further reading at home.
