Anyone who has done cognitive behavioural therapy (or CBT) knows the benefits of recording and understanding your thoughts. This Thought Record, designed by a practicing psychologist utilises the Thought Record tool utilised in therapy and provides the benefits of technology to help identify and record thought distortions and emotional responses.
You cannot challenge self defeating and self limiting thoughts until to you know what they are, and inside our minds they generally seem reasonable and valid. So whether as a tool to enable therapy, coaching or personal work, this thought record uses your phone to put the tools in your hands.
The thought record allows you to enter and keep a record of each thought, while providing a list of both feelings and thought distortions through which you can explore and select the feeling and thought distortion that most aptly describes how you feel and the belief and reasoning behind that thought.
The opportunity then exists for you to share the thought with a friend, life coach or even a therapist. A record of your thoughts also provides a chance to review how often you have a thought, what the various triggers are and can also allow you to focus in on the distortions which allow these thoughts and feelings to flourish and grow.
