Serious education-app for your child’s first daily reading practice.
The purpose of Ready to Read is to train the most important parts of early reading comprehension - the shape and sound of letters. These are fundamental for reading and provides children with the knowledge that letters represent sounds, together they make words, and words have meaning. The first steps in the process of Learn to Read.
•Great addition to the old exercise books
Use the app 10 minutes at home with your kid or in school as a variation from the first daily reading practice. Children in preschool who are curious about letters will also love Ready to Read.
•Pronunciation, not letter names
Children often learn the names of the letters instead of their sounds. This forces them to relate to something they cannot directly use in their first reading. They might even have to unlearn it when school presents them with sound-based learning. Broadly speaking, children have no use of letter names in their first reading. Ready to Read only uses the sounds of the letters.
•300 most common words as word pictures
Unfortunately, not all English words are pronounced the way they look. In fact, some of the most common English words are spelled nothing like the way they sound. It is a significant help to know these words as word pictures. Children will not even have to concentrate on using phonetics, but merely recognize the visual characteristics of the word in the same way they recognize their name or a large yellow M for McDonalds. This is why Ready to Read uses the 120 most common words as word pictures.
•Capital letters are for the practiced
Many children learn the uppercase/majuscule forms first. Of course they should learn these, but not until they know the much more relatable lowercase letters. It is easier to relate to one shape of a sound instead of two, and as soon as they learn the lowercase letters, they will start recognizing them in their own books. Ready to Read focuses on lowercase letters.
Expert teachers with years of experience developed the content in ‘Ready to Read’. We stand out from other reading-apps by focusing on the sound of the letters and writing the letters on the screen.
We designed Ready to Read for children aged 4-10 (those who cannot read yet or have reading difficulties).
Try the Scandinavian smash-hit – more than 50.000 hours played!
"The design is simple, colourful and unfussy: easy to use and with minimum distractions from the core exercises" - AppsPlayground
