Tala Keeper Basic edition is a simplified and free version of Tala Keeper, a visual programmable metronome. The Tala Keeper family can not only highlight beats like a good metronome should, but they also show the passage of continuous time using a bouncing ball animation.
Make no mistake - Tala Keeper Basic is not a crippled version of Tala Keeper. It is a fully functional programmable metronome. This edition is suitable for Carnatic music students who need a metronome for traditional practice.
1. Compose arbitrary talas by simply tapping the pads. Yes, this means all 35+108 talas are fully playable in this free version. (Visit http://talakeeper.org/talas.html .)
2. Store as many of these talas as you like in the built-in database.
3. Adjust the tempo with a finger swipe or a pinch gesture, or by tapping at the desired speed.
4. Show the beat count. Useful for long patterns.
5. Share your talas with others via mail/i-message/twitter/facebook etc.
6. Play any tala composed on the Tala Keeper advanced edition.
7. Shake to revert to the previous tala (one level of undo).
For teachers and advanced music students who are into independent practice, the advanced edition provides the following as well -
1. Zen mode - for distraction-free practice with the metronome. Just put your iPhone/iPod Touch down and after a few seconds the controls will slide out of view. Just pick up your device and the controls fly back in.
2. Facilities for composing more complex patterns with even mixed kalais, nadai and gatis. These are useful at the advanced level for practicing multi-kalam pallavis and also for composing sophisticated korvais.
3. Memory buttons for temporary pattern storage. Useful when composing complex patterns.
4. Shake to revert to the previous pattern (unlimited undo levels).
