On Shaarn, adventurers seek out strange artefacts at the behest of the mysterious Quest Office... but is all as it seems, or is there a deeper mystery to this dangerous world where magic is real and death lurks in every dark corner?

The world of Shaarn has been a much fought over piece of real estate down the centuries, with various powers fighting for its resources to exploit – resident sentients included.

To the Higher Powers, it was a game. To the residents of Shaarn, it was like the Gods themselves were at war.

One race ruled Shaarn for over 300 years and exploited it mercilessly. Their rule ended with a massive battle which finally, it was hoped, destroyed them all (but some survive). That Battle required the building of deadly and dangerous artefacts and which left parts of Shaarn pretty much a wreck that it’s only now beginning to recover from.

About the Author
John Freeman is the co-creator of Crucible. He is a comics writer, editor and features writer whose previous credits include editorship of Doctor Who Magazine, Star Trek Magazine, Star Wars Magazine and Babylon 5 Magazine. He was Senior Editor at Marvel UK in the 1990s, editing Overkill, Warheads, Death's Head II and more. He works as Managing Editor of audio comics publisher ROK Comics by day and continues to write a number of comic strips by night, including Crucible.
