Meath , Contae na Mhi ( The Middle)is known as the Royal County as it was the seat of the High Kings of Ireland where they ruled from the Hill of Tara.

Trim Castle is the largest Anglo Norman castle in Ireland were the film Braveheart was filmed.
The Battle of the Boyne in 1690 was the largest gathering of an army on Irish soil. To this day it is a pilgrimage site for Unionists
