What Makes A Hero?
This app features two educational activities from the hugely popular E2BN ‘History’s Heroes’ website.
Activity 1:
This activity consists of a sequence of screens, each with a very brief description of a particular period relating to an imaginary country. Each period is different from the others, and each has its own peculiar dangers - some grave, some more subtle. Each situation calls for different kinds of people to step forward and help society and country.
The pupils go from period to period and for each period, they drag one of the people shown on the right of the screen into the empty square in the centre. The person they select is someone whom they think could be useful to others, or the country, in the situation described on that page. The selected person is likely to act well - to become a "hero" - at that particular time.
To help make this choice, there is a very brief list of each person's key personality traits, which can be seen by tapping that person.
Pupils can go back and change the selection on any page if they want to.
When they have reached the last page, they can then move on to the final page, which shows them a list of their selections.
Activity 2:
This activity consists of a sequence of screens, each with a very brief description of a particular period relating to an imaginary country. Each period is different from the others, and each has its own peculiar dangers - some grave, some more subtle. Each situation calls for different kinds of people to step forward and help society and country.
The pupils go from period to period and for each period, they drag one or more of the heroes shown on the right of the screen into the empty rectangle in the centre. The heroes they select are those whom they think would act most heroically and be of most use to their country, in the situation described on that page.
All the heroes are described in detail in the History's Heroes website: http://historysheroes.e2bn.org
