The Harz has a very special treasure of human achievement for you to explore: the UNESCO World Heritage Mines of Rammelsberg, the Historic Town Goslar and the Upper Harz Water Management System (in short: UNESCO World Heritage in the Harz).
The Harz used to be one of the most important mining regions in Europe. Today you can visit former mines, exciting museums and old mining towns on more than 200 km². During numerous hikes you can discover the wonderful Harz landscape for yourself. Or get to know the impressive Upper Harz Water Management System on a guided tour: you can find out here why the old ponds, water ditches and watercourses were needed for mining.
