Xue-Song

The App contains photographs of Xue Song’s artworks since 1986, including those that have been shown for many times on international exhibitions and those been collected by notable artistic organizations and collectors.

The App also contains reviews and interview articles from three critics and curators, in which Xue has made a vivid depiction of his artistic experience as well as featured interpretation of his own artistic creation and concept.

The App presents photographs of Xue at his sole exhibition, at his studio as well as in life.

Xue Song's Artworks Show:
- Because the fragments of original historical materials have been baptized by fire, when these fragments are then rearranged and pieced together to form a regenerated image, they would give the audience different visual experiences and meanings at different distances of viewing. We can thus say that Xue Song’s works are arguably an open space for meanings, out-reaching, correlating, and interactive; Xue’s works constantly remind their viewers to look at the fragments of history, and at the same time invite them to participate in this kaleidoscope-like game of puzzles, leading them to imagine and conclude with their own theories, understanding, and answers.
- The treatment of ready made pictorial images and text prints through selection, disintegration, burning, restructuring, collage and drawing to eventually produce the new image which meets his own requirement is both the special creation steps of Xue Song as well as the necessary process for us to read and understand his works. The production procedure which seems like pipeline to the outsiders actually includes, in each of its steps, the historical thinking and judgment of the artist on the basis of current culture and reality and, also, the sensitive grasp and clever application of the complex images which embrace all kinds of old, new, Chinese and foreign elements.
- The humanistic theme is an important aspect of Xue Song’s creation. In the expression of this theme, even though Xue Song usually proceeds with a light and pleasing visual format, as the selection of materials and the artistic operation are so distinctive, we can still read the various emotions of criticism, ridicule, warmth, mercy, humor or expectation, all from the busy and complex information of the pictures.
