Gordian Knot Designer

Ornate knots were used by the Celtic/Viking peoples of Europe for centuries for decoration. For the Celts the knots had religious and symbolic meaning. Later, Christian monks used them to illuminate books and it is primarily via these manuscripts that we have so many examples of the art form.

Today, these knots are still being designed by traditional craftsmen and can often be seen on jewelry, particularly wedding rings, where the intertwining knot is used to symbolize eternity.

Gordian Knot Designer is an easy to use design package for the creation of Celtic Knots (also known as plait work, knot work and rope work). You can use Gordian Knot Designer as an art package to create beautiful works of art or as a design tool to experiment with ideas for:

The intuitive interface makes it easy to create simple or complex knots with everything you need to go from initial idea to finished work of art. Some of the tools provided are:

* Shape Library - to keep the images you need in one place for ease of access;
* Shape Stack - to manipulate the structure of your work at the individual layer level;
* Color Pickers - to help you get the exact color you need;
* Image Browser - to make importing background images into your work easy.

Once you have finished with a design you can choose to print it out, save it to your Photo Library or email it to a friend. Your work will be saved in the standard PNG format so it can be uploaded into many different types of graphic manipulation packages for further refinement.

Gordian Knot Designer was designed and built for the iPad. It takes full advantage of the iPad's intuitive user interaction capabilities and makes the creation of complex beautiful knots child's play.
