Newsie project is a location and target-based globalized information service application for iPhone that allows the user to know in real time what is going on, either around him, or in a specific location, given a great diversity of available themes: health, restaurants, sports, exhibitions, transport... Chiefly pertinent to those unfamiliar with their surroundings or unaware of relevant information, the application tries to respond, through user feeds, with topics related based not only upon nearby location but also upon a targeted place.
Newsie project currently supports five types of tasks which are organized as follows:
What's up? lets you query on whatever is going on based on a theme, either around you, given a specific location, or from a friend; as soon as you access the information, you can see the feeder's statistics (number of questions asked and answers posted) and, according to your satisfaction, also rate him as follows: (high to low) Pulitzer winner, Senior newsie, Junior newsie, Juvenile newsie, Cadet newsie. The rates given report to two different tasks: the number of good tips given by the feeder ("newsie") and the number of his answers that were accepted by the question poster. Swiftness of answer also influences the rating. Moreover, the user can further filter his query by narrowing down the tips according to newsies' ratings. To complete the screen, the user has the opportunity to add the newsie as friend. Aside from accessing information from friend or location, the user can also view content relevant to a given location provided by the biggest online encyclopedia, DBpedia. This enriches the application by providing further pertinent content.
Newsie lets you post information, based on a theme, either around you or given a specific location, and get credit (rating) for that; the tip can be globally broadcasted or filtered (just for friends) but, either way, it must be up to date. By typing an expiration date (e.g.: you know that for the next few days there is a 50% discount on a specific store; the information must remain active only for those few days) the newsie guarantees the information is fresh. Along with the tip, the feeder can upload a photo providing, that way, graphic information to better expose the subject.
Post question lets you post a question you would like to get answered, based on a theme, either around you or given a specific location, either globally broadcasted or filtered (just for friends); again, the question has an expiration date assuring freshness and preventing information jamming. Furthermore, you can view all questions posted by you and all answers reported by feeders (newsies); you can then accept a given answer based on accuracy and response time which, in turn, gives credit to the feeder: (high to low) Pulitzer winner, Senior newsie, Junior newsie, Juvenile newsie, Cadet newsie.
Post answer lets you answer a posted question, based on a theme, either around you or given a specific location, either globally broadcasted or filtered (just from friends) and, if accepted, get credit for that: (high to low) Pulitzer winner, Senior newsie, Junior newsie, Juvenile newsie, Cadet newsie. Along with the answer, the feeder can upload a photo, again, for further insight. He also has the opportunity to view the owner of the question profile and statistics, letting him, if interested, request his friendship.
Profile lets you view your and friends' profile & statistics as well as information related to posted queries and questions answered. Here you can also alter your profile information and photo, delete or add a friend.
