Classic Movies Duo App 1.0
Classic Movies Duo is an app with easy-to-use interface that features two classic movies, 'Meet John Doe' and 'His Girl Friday'. These two classic movies will entertain you with their own unique flavor.
Meet John Doe (1941) is Frank Capra's wonderful, message-laden populist melodramatic tale about the common man.
Meet John Doe-The sentimental, hard-hitting film is often grouped in Capra films abut American individualism.
With all-time persuasive performances by both Barbara Stanwyck and Gary Cooper, this sobering film remains an important social commentary. It is about A man needing money agrees to impersonate a nonexistent person who said he'd be committing suicide as a protest, and a political movement begins.
The film is about a "grassroots" political campaign created unwittingly by a newspaper columnist and pursued by a wealthy businessman. It became a box office hit and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Story. Though the film is less well known than other Frank Capra classics, it remains highly regarded today.
Director: Frank Capra
Writers: Richard Connell (story), Robert Presnell Sr. (story)
Stars: Gary Cooper, Barbara Stanwyck and Edward Arnold
Storyline
As a parting shot, fired reporter Ann Mitchell prints a fake letter from unemployed "John Doe," who threatens suicide in protest of social ills. The paper is forced to rehire Ann and hires John Willoughby to impersonate "Doe." Ann and her bosses cynically milk the story for all it's worth, until the made-up "John Doe" philosophy starts a whole political movement. At last everyone, even Ann, takes her creation seriously...but publisher D.B. Norton has a secret plan. Written by Rod Crawford
His Girl Friday (1940) is Howard Hawks' speedy and hysterically funny, modern-style screwball comedy, and one of the best examples of its kind in film history.
His Girl Friday-Although it has a 92-minute running time, the breath-taking, fast-paced film has more than enough dialogue for a 3-hour movie. The film, starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell, marked the beginning of a number of screwball comedies in the 1940s that emphasized the conflict for women in deciding between love/marriage and professional careers. It is film about a newspaper editor who uses every trick in the book to keep his ace reporter ex-wife from remarrying.
Director: Howard Hawks
Writers: Charles Lederer (screenplay), Ben Hecht (play)
Stars: Cary Grant, Rosalind Russell and Ralph Bellamy
Storyline
Hildy Johnson has divorced Walter Burns and visits his office to tell him that she is engaged to another man and that they are going to get married the day after. Walter Burns can't let that happen and frames the other man, Bruce Baldwin, for a lot of stuff getting him into trouble all the time, while he tries to steer Hildy back into her old job as his employee (editor of his newspaper).
Written by Lars J. Aas
Walter Burns, editor of a major Chicago newspaper, is about to lose his ace reporter and former wife, Hildy Johnson, to insurance salesman Bruce Baldwin, but not without a fight! The comedy snowballs as William's friend, Molly Malloy, the crooked Mayor, and Bruce's mother all get tied up in Walter's web. Written by Steve Fenwick
