Stratos: Secure Document Access and Collaboration

NOTE: To be useful, this application requires that you also install the free Stratos Personal server on your PC. You can download that component from our web site.

Stratos securely extends your enterprise web sites and document libraries to your iPad or iPhone. You have instant, secure access to your corporate intranet, home drive, and file shares, without a VPN. This gives you an always up-to-date view of your files without the need to copy files between the cloud and your iPad or iPhone.

Stratos features a graphical, intuitive view, providing a snapshot of the actual document pages as you browse through directories. It also allows you to pull up a filmstrip of the pages of any file, so you can quickly determine the relevance of a document before you open it in presentation mode. Optimized for the mobile screen, pages are shown with perfection, allowing you to zoom in to see the smallest details. Stratos supports viewing of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) documents, a variety of image formats, video, and PDF files.

The Stratos app works with a Stratos server to establish a secure connection to your files, both when you're connected to the same network and when you're roaming. The Stratos Server streams documents page by page, eliminating the long download time that comes with large files. Instead, you quickly see the first page, allowing you to start working while the rest of the file arrives. Additionally, you can mark a file for offline use, and the entire file will be encrypted on your iPad, making it accessible even when you don't have a network connection.

Stratos servers can read files from a variety of sources, including a path on your local hard disk, a Windows File Share (CIFS), and Microsoft SharePoint. In each case, it provides secure authentication using your network credentials, so you don't have to remember a different username and password. The modular architecture supports a variety of repositories and new ones are added regularly. You can see up-to-date information about the formats supported at our web site.

Working together, the Stratos app and server also allow you to browse all of your internal web sites, without a VPN. The modern browser renders pages correctly and quickly, and all cookies and downloaded assets are protected by the secure container. Documents that appear as links, such as attachments in Outlook Web Access, on a web page are rendered as well, so you always have access to pixel-perfect documents.

This minor release includes one new feature and several small bug fixes.

This release replaces the old "first use" tutorial with coach marks. That means that, instead of having to flip through a bunch of screens when you first start the application, you will instead see little hints directly on screens as you access them for the first time. Our designer is thrilled, and we think you will be, too.

Additionally, we've made the "save back" process a little smoother, eliminated the occasional crash during provisioning, and generally fixed a few other minor bugs.

We recommend that all users download this version.
