With a love for languages, Karen launched a travel book publishing company from her dorm room at UC Berkeley and that first title on France is now the flagship to a series of 17 titles that cover destinations in Europe and North America. Researching for over three decades, with over 1.5 million books in print, travelers count on her personal and honest recommendations—often referring to her guidebooks as “their bible.” For eighteen years she and her husband also took on the role of innkeepers at their own, award-winning Seal Cove Inn on the San Francisco Coast.
