★ AUTHORED by Wayne Curtis ★

Brass bands to beignets in the Crescent City ✭ New Orleans is one of the world’s most complex, engaging, and mystifying cities — and it’s so close to America! Yet this vital and enduring city on the Gulf of Mexico can be confusing to first-time travelers. It’s layered with history and culture — the music, the arts, the street parades, the cuisine, and the architecture all can seem a world apart.

In part, that’s because this is a city that refuses to become a history museum — the culture here is still very much alive, with chefs riffing off century old-favorites, and brass bands on the street picking up the instruments of their forebears and striking up a funk or hip-hop beat.

Visitors lacking imagination or curiosity often confine themselves to a few blocks of Bourbon Street. Limit yourself to that, and you miss out on what makes this city shine.

How do you find that other New Orleans? This easy-to-use app contains some 150 destinations and more than a thousand photos showing how to get the most out of this complex city — what to do, where to go, where to stay, and what to eat and drink.

What exactly will this app help you do?

• Cut through the noise and clutter and find the best places to spend your travel time and money.

• Move beyond Bourbon Street to the less frenetic, more genuine parts of the city… with better music, better drinks, better food.

• Find the best places for gumbo or a Sazerac cocktail.

• Map your next stop, and if needed call a taxi with a single tap to get there.

• Suggest hotels and inns for a good night’s rest.
