Advanced Camera Ruler is a camera ruler app that uses your iPhone's camera and accelerometer to measure distance and height. All you need to do is to stand up, aim the target and get the result instantly. It is a perfect app to measure room dimension, building, pole or an object's height.

Advanced Camera Ruler on iPhone and Advanced Ruler Pro on Android (both are based on the same technique) have been downloaded over 100,000 times. It has been proven to be accurate if you are using it correctly. The following FAQ's will help you troubleshooting some of the accuracy issues.

1. If your phone accelerometer is not working correctly, please do not purchase this app as it won't work. If the accelerometer is working but off by a few degree consistently, that's fine. You can use the calibrate feature in the app to fix the issue. An easy way to test your phone's accelerometer is to use a bubble level app or a game such as froggy jump or labyrinth. If you didn't notice any weird behavior, this camera ruler app will work for you.

2. We need to know the camera height and we suggest you to use your eye height when you are STANDING as the camera height. Note that you don't have to use the eye height but if you are using it, you don't need to input the eye height every time you use the app. In this case, please do not sit there. You need to stand straight. Ladies, if you are on high heels, you need to add the heel height or remeasure the actual camera height, especially if you want to get an accurate result.

3. You need to aim on the ground where you stand, not aim at the object directly if the object is not on the ground. For example, to measure a distance to a tree, aim at the tree root. The ground has to be flat. If you are on a slope, you will have to aim at an hypothetical root that is at the same horizontal level as where you stand.

4. The distance is the horizontal distance from the camera to the object, not the direct distance from the camera to the object. Many people think we are using camera focus feature to measure the distance so they tried to aim at the object directly which is a misconception.
