Founded by Bernard Coutaz in 1958, harmonia mundi is a French independent record producer specialising in classical and world music. Since its creation, the label has recorded such artists as Alfred Deller, René Jacobs, William Christie, Philippe Herreweghe, and Alexandre Tharaud. It has unswervingly pursued a policy of artistic quality and exploration of the repertoire with both well-established names and 'new talents'; notable current artists include Matthias Goerne, Andreas Staier, Isabelle Faust, Alexander Melnikov, Anonymous 4, Andreas Scholl, Jean-Guihen Queyras, Maurice Steger, Paul Lewis, Mark Padmore, Emmanuelle Bertrand, and Paul O'Dette.
