The concept of the games has been defined and the emblem has been designed, according to the master plan for the 16th Asian Games revised by the Guangzhou Organizing Committee.

Meanwhile, ideas for the mascot of the games are being sought worldwide. Additionally, based on relevant plans, the construction of sports venues, Asian Games Village and support facilities such as the media center are underway. While the games are being held, a total of 98 sports venues will be available, including 53 competition venues, 17 training venues and another 8 non-competition venues such as the Asian Games Village and the media center.

There are 42 events scheduled for the Games which is the greatest number in history, with 5 newly-added events: Dragon Boat Racing, cricket, dance performances, weiqi and Chinese roller skating.

广州2010亚运会有53个比赛场馆、17个独立训练场馆,形成了广东奥林匹克体育中心、天河体育中心、大学城、亚运城及花园酒店(总部酒店)周边场馆等五大场馆群,辐射到广州市10个区2个县级市和佛山、东莞、汕尾3个分赛区城市。
