Make a birthday wish with the Lumos Birthday Candle app, the official app of JK Rowling's foundation, Lumos.
The virtual birthday candle is available in four different colours. Watch as the flame dances around when you move your iPhone. And, like a real birthday candle, try to blow the candle out by blowing gently on the microphone! (iPod Touch users will require an external microphone for this feature.)
We are Lumos, founded by J K Rowling. We want to end the systematic institutionalisation of children across central and eastern Europe. Children in large residential institutions rarely receive the one-to-one attention that they so desperately need. That is why 1 June, International Children’s Day, is often chosen as a day to celebrate their birthday.
- We believe that all children should be raised in a safe and caring family setting.
- We believe that every child has the right to a happy and confident childhood.
- We believe that disability, ethnicity and poverty are not reasons to lock children away.
- We are dedicated to transforming the lives of disadvantaged children by facilitating the end of institutional care for good.
