eCBT Trauma is an iPhone application that helps people who have experienced a traumatic event. It uses the scientific principles of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help relieve the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and can be used in conjunction with psychotherapy or as a standalone self-help intervention.
Electronic CBT (eCBT©) is not replacement for traditional psychotherapy, or for medications used to treat symptoms of PTSD. Instead, eCBT aims to help people learn how to assess their symptoms after experiencing a trauma, learn relaxation and grounding skills to help cope with those symptoms, and how to successfully complete exposure exercises, which have been shown to dramatically reduce the symptoms of PTSD.

ABOUT ELECTRONIC COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (eCBT):
At the foundation of CBT is a simple idea – the things that we think influence how we feel and react to events, including trauma. In PTSD, a traumatic event creates cognitive, emotional, and physical reactions that the brain has difficulty digesting. By learning relaxation and grounding exercises, and then systematically exposing yourself to cues associated with the trauma, your brain can better 'digest' what has occurred, relieving symptoms of PTSD in the process.
CBT's history goes back more than 40 years, to pioneering work done by Dr. Aaron T. Beck and others who developed an empirically-based, short-term, structured psychotherapy for a variety of problems. Since that time, it has continually evolved, been refined and expanded by a generation of Clinical Psychologists and other professionals. Today, CBT represents a robust, scientifically proven system of psychotherapy that can be effective in helping people deal with a variety of problems, from PTSD and depression, to coping with chronic pain and substance abuse.
