"A towel is the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have." So we are told by Douglas Adams' incomparable Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
At long last, with Towel on your iPhone or iPod Touch, you can carry a towel with you wherever you go!
Towel is fluffy and blue. As an iPhone app, Towel may not be as absorbent as some other towels. It also lacks patches to suck on for vitamins, antidepressants, and barbeque sauce.
But unlike most other towels, Towel includes a Sub-Etha Sense-O-Matic Thumb so you can hitch a ride off whatever planet you happen to find yourself on, without having to hope someone named after a car will show up to drag you away from oncoming bulldozers. How's THAT for massively useful?
(Terrestrially, Sub-Etha Thumb works over Wifi, 3G, and EDGE connections. 3G and EDGE may not be available in more advanced civilizations, but Wifi truly is a universal standard.)
Towel also provides direct access to h2g2, the closest thing to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy you're likely to find outside of fiction.
(h2g2 describes itself: "h2g2's inspiration comes from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the best-selling book by Douglas Adams, one of the original founders of the site. Back in 1971, Douglas lay drunk in a field in Innsbruck, Austria, thinking about the galaxy and how you might find your way around it. His solution, the 'Guide', was an ingenious device that offered advice about almost any place, object, entity or event you might care to name - all at the convenience of your fingertips. This vision is now approaching reality, both on the Internet and on mobile phones, in the form of h2g2.")
Towel has no connection to Douglas Adams, h2g2, the BBC, any HHGTTG rights-holding entity whether terrestrial, galactic, or inter-dimensional; nor does it have any connection to any authorized Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy incarnation as a radio show, an increasingly-inaptly-named trilogy of books, a tv series, movie, ebook, or salmon-flavored dolphin snacks.
But if you're a fan of any of those things, you'll enjoy having Towel on your iPhone.
And everyone you meet will instinctively recognize that you're a hoopy frood who knows where your Towel is.
