AI Joe is a useful utility that detects and identifies the equipment (figure accessories) of the GI Joe toys produced by Hasbro. G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero (also known as Action Force in the UK) is a military-themed line of action figures and toys in Hasbro's G.I. Joe franchise. The toyline lasted from 1982 to 1994, producing well over 500 figures and 250 vehicles and playsets. This version of G.I. Joe is still much recognized by many people who grew up in the 1980s and 1990s.
The AI Joe app is very easy and effective to use to identify items for GI Joe figures:
* It recognizes 450 different GI Joe accessories for figures released between 1982 and 1994 in the following categories: guns, handhelds, standalone and body-mounted weapons, projectile Launchers, explosives and projectiles, knives and swords, bladed or silent weapons and animals. Additional categories are currently being processed.
* Prepare the toy parts you want to recognize. If possible, they should be placed on a uniform, homogeneous and light background (paper, table, sheet, etc.).
* Launch the app on an iOS, iPadOS or macOS (with Apple Silicon) device. The application contains all the data necessary for its operation, no internet connection is required. The recognition of accessories thus also works in offline mode.
* Camera usage must be allowed for the application. No other user permission is required for the app, only the camera. Constantly using the camera of the device, it searches for and recognizes objects in real time. In the settings, you can change the camera used (back, front), the camera resolution (VGA, 720p, 1080p, 4K), the recognition interval and even more camera properties (like autofocus, HDR, stabilization, torch level, etc.).
* The application continuously captures the camera image and searches for game accessories. You can set the maximum number of objects that can be recognized, the minimum recognition accuracy (percentage) and the way accessories are outlined. A number of additional fine-tuning options are available to achieve the best recognition efficiency. You have to play with the settings.
* AI Joe can use the device's GPU, as well as the Apple Neural Engine processor, if available. The recognition speed may be affected by the computing component used. Using the machine learning model is an extremely computationally intensive task, which is why the device may overheat during long use.
* By tapping on a detected object in the camera image, the application provides detailed information about the GI Joe accessory. Different color variations of an accessory are recognized by the model as the same.
* The photo of the recognized accessory can be shared or saved to camera roll.
AI Joe, as the name suggests, uses built-in artificial intelligence (AI) to identify possible accessories detected in the camera images. Artificial intelligence works similarly to the human mind. It is able to make statements in the present using his previous observations and studies. As a result, the knowledge of artificial intelligence acquired through machine learning is constantly improving as it sees and identifies more and more images.
Like human intelligence, machine intelligence is not infallible. The machine can make mistakes both in detecting and identifying objects.
