Vincent Van Gogh
Dutch post-impressionist painter whose work and style of vivid coloration was highly influential on 20th-century art. Van Gogh remained poor and virtually unknown throughout his life and died in France at the age of 37. Although he only sold one painting during his life Van Gogh completed more than 2,100 works and several of these paintings today rank among the most expensive in the world.
