A new photo or movie is released each day with a caption written by a professional astronomer. Browse over 20 years of stunning pictures.
Beautiful Universe Features

• Use the calendar to jump to any day's picture
• Preview the latest image in Today View or Notification Center

Actions
• From the list, preview pictures using a light press and press a little deeper to open the picture. (Requires an iPhone 6s with 3D Touch)
• When viewing a picture, tap the picture to enter full screen mode
• Pinch to zoom and drag to pan
• Swipe left or right to move to the next picture
• Tap the title to show the picture caption
• Tap links in the caption to learn more

All astronomy images, videos and descriptions in Beautiful Universe are provided by NASA's Astronomy Picture Of the Day (APOD). APOD was created in 1995 by Robert Nemiroff and Jerry Bonnell who continue to select the entries and write and edit the captions. The APOD archive contains the largest collection of annotated astronomical images on the internet. APOD is a service of the Astrophysics Science Division at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and Michigan Technological University.
Some APOD images and videos are copyrighted by their owners. Most NASA images are in the public domain.
