Aesop’s Fables Remixed is a collection of commonly known fables retold and remixed into intertwining stories. We are starting with 5 stories and will be adding more based on interest. Your child can listen to the stories together with you, while riding in the car, just before Mr. Sandman comes to visit at bedtime. Discuss the lessons of the stories and find the science in everyday life. Give your child an opportunity to read the stories aloud by himself or herself, too.
If you want to create your own stories like this, you can do that with 30hands Pro. (Please note that 30hands Starter is no longer available.)
The first 5 stories include:
1) The Village (by 30hands)
2) The Tortoise and the Hare, Part 1 (by Aesop)
3) The Lion’s Share and the Three Bulls (2 Aesop’s fables combined)
4) The Milkmaid and the Pail (by Aesop)
5) The Miser (by Aesop)
The fables cover 5 areas of learning based on standards and Bloom’s Taxonomy:
1) Listening to a story
2) Reading a story
3) Thinking about a story and answering questions about it
4) Performing activities that emphasize concepts in the story, often times a science concept
5) Creating a story from scratch, either by recounting the same story in the child’s own words or creating a new story
The stories are narrated multimedia picture books that can be played back by kids independently or with an adult and can be read like a traditional story book. Included in every story are 1 or 2 video clips relating to the story. At the end of each fable is a moral (or two), a series of 2 or 3 questions and activities to get children thinking about the stories and interacting with parents and teachers.
The stories are fun, but they also include fundamental learning skills, including reading silently and aloud, listening, thinking about what was in the story, drawing conclusions about what happened in the story and trying out hands-on activities related to the aspects of science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEM & STEAM).
How does this relate to standards?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Reading fables, listening to them, recounting them and answering questions about the stories are key elements of the Common Core and state standards for Reading Literature and Speaking & Listening, especially in grades K-3.
