Welcome to Birder, the premiere bird watching community! Birder is an innovative global social network that helps you locate birds in real-time anywhere in the world, record detailed sighting information and share your observations, all while building your personal Life List. Combining an innovative bird-finding app with unique mapping and listing tools, Birder makes it possible to truly harness the power of the birding community.
Using Birder’s unique tools, you can locate nearby birds that you want to see and discover new birds you would have never expected to see. Birder combines real-time sightings from other Birders to deliver a complete and up-to-the-minute picture of what other birders are seeing. With Birder in your pocket you are equipped to find and report any one of the approximately 10,000 global species currently in the eBird taxonomy. You’ll never miss a chance to see that rare bird again!
With Birder, it has never been easier to record detailed sighting information including plumage varieties and audio notes. Essential information such as time, date and location are automatically recorded, and all of your sightings are added to your Life List to help you keep track of your observations with an intuitive interface. Birder also tracks a chronological list of your sightings so that you can quickly review what you’ve seen recently and enter new sightings of the same species. When you register for an account with Birder, all of your sightings are stored on our secure server so you never have to worry about losing your life list again.
Utilizing an exclusive color-coded map overlay, Birder enables you to dynamically geovisualize your sightings and find areas with the greatest species diversity as well as sighting density. Birder lets you see sightings wherever they occur, even if there are no hotspots nearby.
Only Birder allows you to attach photos of your observations to your sighting records and share them with other Birders. All of the rich photos found in Birder are sourced from our community, allowing you to see the actual birds other birders are seeing. These beautiful photos are framed by a refined high-contrast graphical interface that is specifically designed for visibility in bright light.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON GPS FUNCTIONALITY

Before using the Hive or Map features, please enter a sighting from the Life List or Sightings tab so that the Birder app can locate itself. In order to ensure the best possible signal, we recommend taking your GPS-enabled device outside to an area with a clear view of the sky. The Hive and Map features will not work properly until this step has been completed. Birder will work on devices without GPS, but all location data must be input manually. For more information, please see the FAQ on our website.
